This year, showcase your holiday feasts with a beautifully dressed table fit for family and friends to gather round! It’s easy to transform your typical dining set into a gathering place for a memorable holiday ambiance; just think “layers”… You start by laying down a foundation for your holiday spread. In times past, a decorative table cloth would suffice, but replace it with (or add to it) a custom table runner and we’re ready to create the perfect holiday table setting! Think of the runner as a runway for a holiday display; place a seasonal floral arrangement in the center, and build off of it in each direction. Candlesticks and holiday accessories help create a beautiful scene for guests to admire while they wait to be served. Appetizers can be arranged on multi-tier stands, ready to be doled out with decorative server ware and spreaders. Many times, something as seemingly unimportant as a unique pair of salt and pepper shakers can be one of the subtle details guests notice as they admire the close attention you paid to the meal. At each guests’ section of the table, personal touches can be made to make each person feel welcome. Place settings are an opportunity to mix colors and patterns to tie all of your florals and accessories together. A metallic charger beneath a stack of various-sized dinner and salad plates can rest under a pre-printed name tag, or perhaps a single-page menu of the meal about to be served. And for the finishing touch, don’t forget the dining chairs! Wrap tulle or a holiday ribbon around the backs of chairs...

Summer is over and fall is here! Pool parties and backyard barbeques are being set aside for the holiday season. As we make way for the transition from summer to fall, it can be quite easy when you prepare in advance. Many of us are watching the pocketbooks nowadays, but a lot can be done for very little. Make a list of items that you may need to cozy up your rooms. The key is to purchase items that will make the most contribution without breaking the bank. The key is simplicity. Clean, crisp lines complemented with rich, warm colors and textures. A comfortable living space should be fresh and un-cluttered and reflects your own personal design style. There are many ways you can accessorize for the fall by adding warm comforter sets to the bedroom, seasonal dinnerware and table linens to the dining room or area rugs, draperies and throw pillows to the living room. Think of essentials that you will use every day. Start with the front door. Adding a fall wreath to the front door sets the tone for the rest of the home. Wreaths, garlands and swags give the door, wall, or staircase an added decorative element. Andrea Lauren is here to help you with this is. We are having a holiday decoration workshop Friday November 12th from 10am-1:30pm. Please join us and we can help guide you by adding that final element to your home that will make the season come alive. An instant make-over would be to purchase a sofa cover in a soft color for fall. This will change the entire ambience...

There’s something special about summer, isn’t there? It’s the season of the Fourth of July, poolside parties, family reunions, and informal entertaining. It’s also a time to have fun with your summer décor! To help you plan, I’m providing you some inspiration for those upcoming festivities. I love these ideas for summer celebrations: When you want elegance, use hurricane lamps for centerpieces and candlelight. These are glass pillars originally made to protect lighted candles from the wind and they come in varying sizes. For casual get-togethers, string paper lanterns on the porch or around the pool. Pick a theme, and add touches through dishes, glassware, tablecloths, and accessories. The beach is a natural inspiration at this time of year. Place gorgeous shells on the serving buffet and tables, and coordinate tablecloths and napkins in shades of coral, sea green and blue. On the Fourth, it’s time for red, white, and blue! For an imaginative look, mix in a variety of shades of blue. Glassware could be light blue or turquoise, for example. Also, choose pretty tablecloths with a pattern of red or blue on a white background. Or use single-color natural fiber placemats – set the table by alternating red mats and blue mats, and top with white dinnerware or sturdy white paper plates. For backyard barbecues, use decorative plastic plates instead of paper, and real silverware. Your guests will need plenty of napkins – stack extras in easy-to-reach baskets and it will be a snap to get more as needed. If you’d like a professional touch to make your home a standout party venue,...

Blooming Colors of Spring Do you want your home to express that spring is in full bloom? The easiest way to refresh your décor is to bring in accents and colors that reflect the change of season. It’s something you can do at least twice a year, whether you want to start a long-planned decorating project or just change out a few accessories. Of course, this is the time of year when days get sunnier – and warmer! And the 2010 spring color palette is popping with the energy of the season. This year’s popular spring colors seem made for Florida homes. They include many shades of pink. Think of the pink sheen of a conch shell, the pinkish red in a summer sunset, or the dark pink of a prize hibiscus. These are nature’s colors when it’s bright and happy. Another great color this spring is apple green. I’m also loving stylish new color pairings, such as aqua and peacock blues paired with raspberry reds. Here are some ways to add spring freshness to your home: For a big seasonal change, go ahead and paint the walls! Paint is an inexpensive way to transform your living space. For a splash or two of spring decorating, go for changes of accessories like pillows, ceramics, and area rugs. Look for pillows in bright spring shades and toss them on your sofa. Change heavy area rugs – if you have a place to store them for a few months – for an edged sisal or brightly painted canvas rug. Dress the bed in a white summer-weight comforter...

Enjoying our Florida spring weather? So am I. And I’m thinking about how an outdoor room makes the season even lovelier. An outdoor room is more than a patio or deck. It is stylish, comfortable, and elegant – the space that ties the inside of your house to the beauty of your garden or swimming pool. When decorating your outdoor room, think of plush furniture, lighting, rugs, accessories, and even artwork. You want to apply the same attention to detail as you would when decorating any room of the house. We can thank changes in outdoor furniture and other key elements for the increased potential of outdoor rooms. Gone are the days when wrought iron chairs with thin cushions were the only choice for seating. New outdoor sofas look like they belong in the family room, with the same amount of comfort. Weather-resistant area rugs could hold their own in dining rooms. When planning your outdoor room, you’ll want a place for dining, relaxing, and conversation. A water feature or fireplace adds to the ambience and provides a natural gathering space. Including a sleek outdoor kitchen makes entertaining friends even easier. For atmosphere, add candles and the right mix of lighting. Choose accent pillows and accessories. A sheer curtain can add a billowy touch in the breeze. Through functional design and attention to detail, a beautiful outdoor room will be enjoyable for years to...
