It seems like it was just yesterday that your “little one” was obsessed with cute little dinosaurs or Barbie dolls… or comic book heroes and teen idols. It’s time to realize that that was yesterday! Your children are growing up and summer time is the best time to change out the style of their bedrooms and show them that you’ve noticed they’re growing up! Give them a personalized place they can call their own! Especially if they are transitioning from grammar school to middle school or middle school to high school. A lot has changed since we were kids, but some things haven’t changed… children still want a private space that is completely about “them”! First step is to sit down and talk about their room and what they want to change. Have dinosaurs been replaced with super heroes? Or have super heroes been replaced by sports? Pick a new theme and then expand on it. Next, plan on changing out the items that will have the most impact visually, like window treatments, wall murals, bed coverlets and headboards. All of these are large enough to instantly give the room a new feel. For example, let’s use this nautical makeover as an example.Changing the color palate to blues and browns instantly changes the atmosphere of the room. Add the nautical flags swag to the windows, throw in a life preserver and add a couple of nautical accessories and voila! You have a really modern and interesting bedroom for your young sailor! Or, do you want something a bit more dramatic? Turn your future fashion designer daughter’s room into her...

Summer is around the corner and we are heading to the beach. Whether you are enjoying the beautiful rocky beaches and giant waves of the west coach, walking the boardwalks of the north eastern shore, or sun bathing in the sunshine state you will all enjoy this little decorating tip. If you are searching for creative ways to stylize your beach house, here is one little tip you can use: Pick a theme, and add touches through dishes, glassware, tablecloths, and accessories. The beach is a natural inspiration at this time of year. Place gorgeous shells on the serving buffet and tables, and coordinate tablecloths and napkins in shades of coral, sea green and blue. You can collect the shells yourself, or you can head on down to the shore and pick up any number of beautiful shells that have washed up onto the sand. If you live near the Tampa area, one wonderful place to find shells is Honeymoon Island. For those of you who live in the Tampa area, this local treasure is about a 45 minute drive. If you are in town for vacation, this stop is a must along your Florida journey. Trust me, it’s completely worth it. To find the best shells, make sure to arrive at 8 a.m. when the park first opens. The early birds gets the shell as they say! The cost to enter the island is $8 per vehicle, or you can purchase an annual pass for $120 that will get you into any state park in Florida for the entire year. Wherever you locate your shells, once you get them home...

Summer is over and fall is here! Pool parties and backyard barbeques are being set aside for the holiday season. As we make way for the transition from summer to fall, it can be quite easy when you prepare in advance. Many of us are watching the pocketbooks nowadays, but a lot can be done for very little. Make a list of items that you may need to cozy up your rooms. The key is to purchase items that will make the most contribution without breaking the bank. The key is simplicity. Clean, crisp lines complemented with rich, warm colors and textures. A comfortable living space should be fresh and un-cluttered and reflects your own personal design style. There are many ways you can accessorize for the fall by adding warm comforter sets to the bedroom, seasonal dinnerware and table linens to the dining room or area rugs, draperies and throw pillows to the living room. Think of essentials that you will use every day. Start with the front door. Adding a fall wreath to the front door sets the tone for the rest of the home. Wreaths, garlands and swags give the door, wall, or staircase an added decorative element. Andrea Lauren is here to help you with this is. We are having a holiday decoration workshop Friday November 12th from 10am-1:30pm. Please join us and we can help guide you by adding that final element to your home that will make the season come alive. An instant make-over would be to purchase a sofa cover in a soft color for fall. This will change the entire ambience...
